Love the ladies at A Northwoods Wedding – their enthusiasm is authentic and contagious! Recently, they featured Stephanie and David’s engagement/rehearsal photos. Did you know that Jenna (from A Northwoods Wedding) is actually FROM Esko, Minnesota! Such a small world…well, in the Midwest anyway! Thanks so much, Jenna and Britt!

I asked Stephanie and David to share a bit more about their rehearsal and wedding, here is what they shared: “Our wedding venue could not have been more appropriate. David proposed in a sauna which made Hemlock Preserve in Esko, Minnesota an easy choice. We wanted to welcome our family and friends to a place that was distinctly Minnesotan. The dairy barn converted into an event space accompanied by a Finnish wood-fired sauna provided a simple and comforting welcome to our weary wedding travelers. In total we had 60 guests which was the perfect amount to fill the barn loft for the dinner. Food was catered by B & B in neighboring Cloquet, MN which Hemlock organized. Stephanie’s aunts provided the traditional Indonesian delicacies for dessert. The venue lent itself towards simple decor with the focus on sharing this time with our guests. Flowers were re-used the next day for the wedding. Anne Ingman’s stunning photographs captured the ‘feeling’ we had that afternoon, finally being able to relax and enjoy our time with guests after months of anticipation. After the dinner, the sauna was ready which offered a unique memory for us and our friends.” Thanks Stephanie and David!

St. Paul, Minnesota – Jena & Tom’s Wedding

I’ve been so excited to share these portraits from Jena and Tom’s wedding. The original 1943 chapel of Roseville Lutheran was absolutely charming and a perfect choice for Jena and Tom’s “first look.” Isn’t Jena stunning as a bride?! Tom, you were looking pretty great as well :)

Jena and Tom are a fantastic couple - laid back but totally organized. My kind of bride and groom! After the ceremony we headed down to Upper Landing in downtown St. Paul for some additional portraits and fun with the wedding party. Shooting right before sunset does not disappoint – absolutely gorgeous light.

St. Thomas More + Harriet Island Pavilion – Kelly & Casey’s Wedding

You might remember Kelly and Casey from their St. Paul engagement shoot last spring. They are such a fun couple! After hearing all the details Kelly had been working on all year, I was so excited to photograph their wedding. It was a beautiful fall day, full of fun that included a Twin Cities Trolley, a Photo Booth, a band called Orange Whip, and the biggest wedding party I’ve ever photographed!

Kelly and Casey are HUGE Wisconsin Badger fans – so big, in fact, they had a Wisconsin “W” ice sculpture, and a 10 foot blow-up Wisconsin Badger at the dance! Also, did you see their cake toppers!? So cute and a nod to their Alma mater.

The centerpieces by Summer Harsh Botanical Artistry were so pretty – I loved the different textures and colors. Friends and family helped with many of the other design elements at the reception, for example, a family friend helped with the place cards by wrapping twine and unique buttons around each envelope. Kelly and Casey came up with all the table markers, which had a special meaning to the them. Inside each guests’ place card contained a more detailed story of the significance of their table marker. Burlap was used throughout the wedding – from Kelly’s bouquet, to table runners, garland, bows, and the place card boards. The front table garland was made by a family friend, and the place card boards were made by the bride and groom. A lot of planning and work goes into a wedding and I thought everything looked great!

Hemlock Preserve, Esko – Stephanie & David’s Rehearsal

I was introduced to Stephanie and David through my good friend, Tia Keobounpheng. They were in need of a photographer for just their rehearsal, and after hearing what they had planned for 60 of their closest friends and family, I was definitely excited to share in their wedding weekend!

Stephanie and David are such a sweet couple and their tender demeanor with one another was so endearing. I had so much fun taking their portraits on truly their last day of engagement! The rehearsal dinner at Hemlock Preserve in Esko, MN was amazing! The property has a fabulous old barn with a comfy lower level full of antique couches and decor, and the upper level is just as unique. There is also an authentic Finnish sauna – hot and ready for guests to enjoy after dinner – how cool is that (FYI – Stephanie and David got engaged in a sauna)! The rustic charm and relaxed celebration was enjoyed by everyone, including me!

Congratulations Stephanie and David! You are truly a beautiful couple and it was my pleasure to meet you!

I am insanely proud to call myself a Minnesotan and was thrilled when I stumbled upon A Northwoods Wedding, a wedding blog dedicated to Midwest weddings! Jenna and Brit have such a passion for weddings and especially ones that have a Midwest style of their own. I was so excited when they wanted to feature Cara and Gabe’s fabulous Scandinavian inspired wedding.

I asked Cara to share a bit more about their planning process – and this is what she said, “Gabe and I agreed early on that we wanted our wedding to convey a sense of intimacy, simplicity, and Norwegian Lutheran heritage. It was so much fun to imagine and plan a day that was completely and wholly us…no silk taffeta, dry chicken, or drama. Instead, we wore cotton, ate burgers, and celebrated our love in the midst of an incredible community of family and friends! Managing many of the details ourselves gave us the opportunity to involve people we love and made everything they touched so much more meaningful. When I see pictures from the wedding, my mind is flooded with all kinds of wonderful and funny memories from those DIY projects! Anne did such a great job capturing the essence of that day, which for us was pure joy!” So thoughtful — thanks Cara!!

The Basilica of Saint Mary – Amy & George’s Wedding

Amy and George were married on a gorgeous day at The Basilica of Saint Mary in Minneapolis. As you can see, everything about the Basilica is breathtaking! To be honest, I was a bit intimidated when I first stepped inside (luckily it was a month or so before the wedding and Amy was with me)! The Basilica is massive and I was definitely kept on my toes during the ceremony, heading to the choir balcony and walking (very very softly) to each side getting all the different angles. Amy looked beautiful in her dress and her bouquet by Sassafras Floral and Garden Design was so soft and pretty.

Amy and George are such a sweet couple – possibly just as sweet as their amazing dessert table! I was blown away with the attention to detail. They thought of everything from popcorn, to Peanut M&M’s, to Milano cookies! Yum! In addition to the table full of treats, each guest had an individually boxed cupcake from Wuollet’s waiting for them at their seat. The reception was in the Great Hall at Silverwood Park in St. Anthony. Such a beautiful spot, especially the outdoor area with the stone fireplace. Guests were able to enjoy the patio during the social hour and the fireplace made it feel very cozy.

Beautiful weather, gorgeous ceremony, delicious food and desserts, along with a great dance – a recipe for a wonderful wedding! Congratulations Amy and George!
